Campbell Phillips is a distinguished drummer and marching percussion specialist from Melbourne, Australia with a strong background in business leadership and development. Thanks to an unwavering passion for music and a deep-rooted commitment to education, Campbell has played a pivotal role in shaping and advancing drumline culture in Australia.

As a young musician, Campbell was selected to perform as the lead drummer from Australia at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and worked as lead snare and Drumline Director with the Australian Youth Band.

Since then, one of Campbell’s most notable achievements was becoming the first Australian to march with the legendary Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps during their 2015 Blue Devils International Tour. The Blue Devils are undeniably one of the world’s most successful drumlines with an impressive 20 DCI World Championship titles. This groundbreaking accomplishment not only marked a milestone in Campbell’s career but also showcased the remarkable talent that exists within the Australian drumming community.

In 2019, Campbell had the privilege of performing with the world-renowned Top Secret drum corps from Switzerland. A childhood dream come true, this experience further solidified Campbell’s reputation as a highly respected and sought-after percussionist at the forefront of the Australian Drumline scene.

Throughout his performance career, Campbell has collaborated with a wide range of artists and bands, including performances with What So Not, Chong Lim AM (John Farnham, Kylie Minogue), M-Phazes (Eminem, Madonna, Demi Lavato), the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and more. He has also toured across Australia and New Zealand with Ralph Nader (BYOS).

Beyond his experience as a performer, Campbell’s musical expertise has extended to directing and composing for numerous high-profile events. His contributions have been instrumental in enhancing the atmosphere and musical experience of events such as the 2022 AFL Grand Final, the 2017 Rugby League World Cup opening ceremony, multiple Victorian State School Spectaculars, and notable TV commercials for companies including Ford, OPPO and Aldi.

As an educator, Campbell is the driving force behind the National Drumline Camp – an event that brings together world class educators from all over world to nurture the talents of percussionists from Australia and New Zealand. He is currently the Drumline Director at the Victorian State School Spectacular, and Camberwell Grammar School and has successfully established and led several highly acclaimed high school programs, where his mentorship and guidance have helped shape the next generation of drummers.

Campbell’s unique experience in the drumline world has also seen him conduct workshops and masterclasses at the Victorian College of the Arts, the Australian National Academy of Music, the Elder Conservatorium in Adelaide, and large number of high schools around the country.

In his role as the Founder and Executive Director of the D²Drumline, Campbell has created both a world class performance ensemble and a thriving community for drummers in Australia. This initiative has not only fostered a sense of camaraderie among percussion enthusiasts but has also provided a platform for aspiring drummers to develop their skills and showcase their talents.

This role with D²  has helped Campbell develop his business leadership and management skills.
